Privacy Policy How AfriWidget Handles Your Data

1. Who We Are and Scope

AfriWidget is a free collection of browser-based tools built and maintained by Obed Avorlenu in Accra, Ghana. The website provides educational and other practical calculators, utilities and learning features. This policy applies when you visit afriwidget.com, use its tools, interact with its saved-progress features, use optional AI functions, share a result, contact us or follow a third-party service linked from the site.

This policy describes our intended practices in plain language. The exact information handled can vary by tool and feature. A feature’s visible controls and the information it asks you to provide should be considered alongside this policy. This policy is not a claim that every data operation is anonymous or that every privacy law automatically applies or is fully satisfied.

2. Information You Enter and Browser Storage

AfriWidget does not require you to create an account or sign in for ordinary tool use. This does not mean that every interaction is anonymous or that no information leaves your device. Some features remember activity in the same browser, while hosting, security, analytics, advertising, optional AI and sharing functions can involve separate processing described below. They may use browser storage technologies such as localStorage or similar client-side storage, depending on how a particular tool is implemented.

Information that may be stored locally includes favorites or saved tools, selected preferences, calculation results, performance history, and learning or diagnostic progress such as practice activity. Some separate tools may also save inputs if that tool explicitly provides an input-saving feature. “Continue Where You Left Off” only remembers previously used tools; it does not save or restore calculator inputs. The precise information stored depends on the feature, and not every tool saves every category.

Local data may remain after you close the tab or return another day. It may be accessible to someone who uses your unlocked device or browser profile. Browser settings, private browsing, storage limits, clearing site data, or device changes can remove it. Unless a feature specifically says otherwise, local browser storage does not automatically sync between devices and AfriWidget cannot retrieve it after it has been cleared.

3. How Standard Tools Process Data

Most standard calculators and utilities perform their main calculations in your browser using JavaScript. For these calculations, the values you enter are processed on your device and do not need to be sent to an AfriWidget calculation server.

That statement does not apply universally to every feature or every network request. Optional AI features, external services, result-sharing functions, analytics, advertising scripts and ordinary web hosting may involve information leaving your browser. The browser also makes technical requests to load the page and its resources. We therefore do not promise that every interaction with AfriWidget is entirely offline or that no information is ever transmitted.

4. Information Processed by the Website and Third Parties

Depending on how you use the website and how your browser is configured, the following categories may be processed:

• Tool information: values, results, preferences or progress entered into a feature. Standard calculations generally remain in the browser; other features are explained in the relevant sections below.
• Technical and request data: information that hosting, security or delivery services may process when your browser requests a page, such as IP address, request time, requested URL, browser or device information, and diagnostic/security signals. The exact fields and retention periods depend on the provider and configuration.
• Usage analytics: page views, interactions, approximate geographic or device information, referral source and similar usage events processed through Google Analytics. Analytics settings and browser controls may affect collection.
• Advertising data: Google AdSense and related advertising technologies may use cookies or similar identifiers and process information to deliver, measure or personalize ads, subject to applicable settings and consent requirements.
• Messages you send us: if you contact us, we receive the information and message content you choose to submit.
• AI request data: if you choose an AI feature, the information included in that request may be transmitted to our backend and the configured AI provider.

We do not intentionally ask you to provide sensitive personal information for ordinary calculations. Please avoid entering names, student index numbers, contact details, medical identifiers, bank credentials or other identifying information unless a feature genuinely requires it and you have decided to proceed.

5. Favorites, Saved Inputs and Progress Features

AfriWidget includes features intended to make repeated use easier, such as saving or favoriting tools, continuing from previous inputs, and tracking performance or learning progress. To provide these functions, a feature may save information in your browser storage. For example, a tool may remember values you previously entered so you can continue later, or record local progress so you can see changes over time.

These features are optional in the sense that you can choose not to use them, where controls are provided. If you do use them, saved data may be visible to anyone with access to the same browser profile. Treat a shared or public device accordingly. We do not describe this browser storage as a secure vault or as a substitute for a private account.

To remove saved information, use any reset, remove, clear-history or delete controls provided by the feature. You can also clear site data for afriwidget.com in your browser settings. Clearing all site data may remove more than one item, including favorites, saved progress, preferences and cookie-consent choices, as well as any inputs separately saved by a tool that offers that function. The exact controls depend on the tool and browser.

5.1 The clear, remove or delete control for each local feature

Every AfriWidget feature that stores information locally in your browser provides a clearly visible control for managing and removing the information it saves. Depending on the feature, the control may be labelled “Clear”, “Remove”, “Delete”, “Clear history”, “Reset progress” or “Clear saved data”. The label and any accompanying message explain what will be removed. A control for one feature clears the saved information belonging to that feature; it does not silently delete unrelated information belonging to another feature.

For example, if you use “Continue Where You Left Off”, its clear control is intended to remove the saved return point or recent activity that powers that feature. If you use a progress tracker, its clear or delete control is intended to remove the progress history stored for that tracker. This applies to progress trackers in education as well as trackers included in health and wellness tools; the information may differ by tool, and a health tracker may contain details that you consider sensitive. If you save a tool to Favourites, the remove control next to the saved tool is intended to remove that item from your favourites list. If a calculator offers a control to clear saved inputs or a previous result, that control is intended to remove the saved inputs or result covered by its label. These examples explain how the controls are meant to work; the exact label and location can differ between tools.

Before using a clear control, read the text beside it or any confirmation message. A button labelled “Remove from favourites” normally removes the selected favourite; it should not be understood as a command to erase progress history, saved calculator inputs or every other item stored by AfriWidget. Likewise, a button labelled “Clear progress” should not be assumed to delete browser cookies, analytics records held by third parties, messages already sent to us, or information stored by a separate payment or AI provider. The scope of each control should be described near that control wherever practical.

5.2 What the different controls mean

• Remove: Usually removes one selected item, such as a favourite tool, saved entry or saved result.
• Clear history: Removes the history covered by that feature, such as recent activity or a progress timeline stored in the browser.
• Clear saved inputs: Removes saved values or form details that a particular tool keeps so you can return to them later.
• Delete progress: Removes the saved learning or performance records covered by the progress feature. If you use the feature again, new progress may be created.
• Clear all data in a feature: Removes the local records that the relevant feature identifies as belonging to it. It does not automatically mean all AfriWidget-related data across every browser storage area or third-party service has been erased.
• Clear AfriWidget site data in your browser: This is a broader browser-level option that may remove several types of site data together, including local storage and cookies. It can also reset preferences and affect how the site behaves.

5.3 Local data categories and how you can manage them

The following examples describe the types of local information a feature may use and the kind of control that should be provided for it. Not every tool uses every category. A feature only needs to store information that supports its function, and the information saved can differ by tool, device, browser and version of the website.

• Favourites and saved tools: The browser may store the identifiers or names of tools you have marked as favourites. Use the remove control beside an individual favourite to remove it. If a favourites panel offers a clear-all option, that option is intended to remove the complete saved favourites list.
• Continue Where You Left Off: This feature remembers tools you have previously used so you can find and reopen them. It does not save or restore the inputs you entered into those tools. Use the feature’s clear or remove control to remove the saved previously used-tool list.
• Calculator inputs and results: Where a calculator remembers entered values or a previous result, its clear/reset/delete control is intended to remove the saved information within that calculator. A reset button that only clears the visible form may not delete a separately saved history unless the interface says that it does; use the specifically labelled saved-data control where one is provided.
• Progress trackers and performance history: Progress tracking is not limited to education. Depending on the tool, AfriWidget may offer trackers in educational tools and Health & Wellness tools. A tracker may save the information you enter, dates, measurements, scores, goals, completed activities or trend information so that you can review changes over time. In a health-related tracker, this could include health or wellness measurements and other health-related details that you choose to enter. Use that specific tracker’s clearly labelled clear, remove, delete or reset control to remove the local records covered by it. Once deleted, the historical chart, comparison or progress record may no longer be available. Health-related information can be sensitive, so only enter information you are comfortable storing in your browser, particularly on a shared device.
• Learning and weakness-diagnostic features: Where a learning feature saves completed questions, selected difficulty, practice history or progress, the relevant clear-progress or reset control is intended to remove those local records. Clearing progress may cause the feature to treat you as a new learner on that browser.
• Health and wellness progress: Where a health or wellness tool includes a progress tracker, its local records may include the values or details you enter and the history or trends calculated from them. The tracker’s own clear or delete control is intended to remove the records stored by that tracker in your browser. Clearing a health tracker does not automatically remove information saved by another AfriWidget feature or information already sent to a third-party service. AfriWidget’s health tools are informational and are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
• Preferences and settings: A tool may remember choices such as display preferences or feature settings. If a settings panel includes a reset or clear option, it is intended to restore the covered settings to their default state. This may not remove records held by a separate feature.
• Recent tools or activity: If the site remembers recently used tools, use the relevant clear-history control to remove that list. Removing recent activity does not necessarily remove saved favourites or progress records.
• Locally saved comparison or sharing preparation: If a feature keeps temporary information to prepare a comparison or sharing action, use the feature’s clear/reset option where available. Once a result has been copied, sent to another person or included in a link, clearing the local copy cannot erase copies held elsewhere.

5.4 What happens when you clear locally stored information

When you use a feature’s clear, remove or delete control, the intended result is that the covered record is removed from the browser storage used by that feature. The interface should make the scope clear, and a confirmation may be shown when the action could erase a meaningful history. If the control removes a single item, only that item should be removed. If it says that it clears all saved data for the feature, it should remove all local records covered by that feature’s description.

After clearing information, the feature may return to its empty or first-use state. Your favourites list may be empty; a continuation feature may no longer remember where you stopped; a progress chart may have no earlier points to display; and a calculator may ask you to enter values again. If you use the feature after clearing it, it may create new local data as part of normal use. Clearing existing data does not permanently disable local storage or prevent new records from being saved in the future.

Browser storage can be separated into different categories and keys. For that reason, a clear button inside one feature should be understood according to its label and accompanying explanation. It should not be assumed to remove every piece of data that any AfriWidget page may have stored unless it specifically says it clears all AfriWidget local data and is implemented to do so. If you want a broader reset, use any site-wide clear-data control provided by AfriWidget, if available, or use your browser’s settings to clear the site data for afriwidget.com. Browser-level clearing may remove cookies and other settings as well as saved tool information.

5.5 Your control does not depend on having an account

Ordinary use of AfriWidget does not require you to create an account for the local features described here. The browser-based approach means that certain saved items are associated with the browser profile and device where they were created, rather than being available automatically in a personal online account. If you change devices, switch browsers, use a private browsing window or clear browser data, your locally saved items may not follow you. AfriWidget does not promise that local history will be recoverable after deletion, browser cleanup, a device reset or a browser storage failure.

Local controls are intended to give you practical control over the information a feature keeps on your device. They do not give you a way to delete data that has already been transmitted to another service. For example, removing a locally stored result will not withdraw a message already sent through a contact form, erase a payment record held by PayPal, remove information already included in a link you sent to another person, or automatically delete analytics records held by an analytics provider. Those activities are covered separately in this policy.

6. Sharing Results and Links

Some tools may let you copy or share a result or link. Sharing is a user-initiated action. Before you send a link or post it publicly, review what the result or link contains. Depending on the implementation of the particular tool, a link may include a result, selected values or information needed to reproduce a result. Anyone who receives a link may be able to see information encoded in it or displayed by the destination page.

Do not share links containing information you would not want another person to see. If you copy a result as plain text or an image, the information you choose to share may also be retained by the app or platform where you paste it. AfriWidget does not control how recipients or external platforms use shared information.

7. Cookies, Analytics and Advertising

Browser storage is different from cookies

Cookies and local browser storage are different technologies. Cookies may be sent with web requests to a website or service, while localStorage is generally read by scripts running on the same site and is not automatically attached to each HTTP request. Both can retain information on your device, and you can manage or clear them through browser settings. Clearing cookies alone may not clear localStorage; you may need to clear the site’s broader “site data.”

Google Analytics

AfriWidget uses Google Analytics to understand overall website usage and improve its tools. Google Analytics may process information such as page visits, events, device/browser details, referral information and approximate location. The exact information depends on the analytics configuration, consent choices and Google’s technology. We may see reports and aggregated metrics; we do not promise that every analytics event is anonymous or that no technical identifier is processed.

Google AdSense, Third-Party Vendors and Advertising Partners

AfriWidget uses Google AdSense to help fund the website and keep its tools available to visitors. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to your website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads to users based on visits to AfriWidget and/or other websites on the internet. Depending on the ad request, the visitor’s location, available consent signals, browser settings and advertising choices, these technologies may also be used to measure ad delivery, limit repeated ads, detect invalid activity, report advertising performance or support other advertising functions.

Interest-based advertising: Advertising may be personalised using information about a person’s previous browsing activity or inferred interests. Google now commonly uses the term personalised advertising for this practice; it has also been known as interest-based advertising. For example, a person who previously visited websites about a particular subject may later see an advertisement related to that subject on another website. This does not mean that AfriWidget itself knows the person’s identity or has access to the full browsing history used by an advertising provider. The advertising provider determines what information it processes under its own systems, settings and policies. Depending on applicable settings and consent, visitors may instead receive non-personalised or contextual ads.

To deliver and measure advertising, Google and other authorised advertising partners may process information such as a browser or device identifier, IP address, general browser and device details, the page or content where an ad is requested, approximate location inferred from technical information, and interactions with ads. The precise information and technologies used can vary. Cookies and similar technologies may be stored in or read from a browser or device by third parties. AfriWidget does not intentionally send its locally saved favourites, calculator inputs, saved results or learning-progress records to Google for advertising. However, the presence of third-party advertising code means that the advertising provider may receive technical request information and information associated with the ad placement or page visit. Do not assume that locally stored information and third-party advertising data are the same thing: they are handled through different mechanisms.

Which advertising partners are involved? At the time this policy was updated, Google AdSense is the advertising service integrated into AfriWidget. Google may use other ad partners, bidders, vendors or ad technology providers to serve, personalise where permitted, and measure ads. The specific partners that may be eligible to participate can depend on the visitor’s region, the ad request, the publisher settings and Google’s current partner configuration; the list may therefore change. For transparency, Google maintains current information about advertising partners and their data-use disclosures in its publisher tools and help resources. You can review Google’s information about managing AdSense ad partners and the AdSense privacy-policy disclosure requirements. AfriWidget does not claim that every company appearing on Google’s general partner lists serves an ad to every visitor. If AfriWidget adds a separate independent advertising network in the future, this policy should be updated to name that network and link to its relevant privacy information.

Your choices: You can review or change Google’s personalised-ad settings through Google Ads Settings. You can also review industry opt-out options at aboutads.info. The availability and effect of these controls depend on your location, browser, device, account status and the participating provider. Opting out of personalised advertising does not necessarily remove all cookies, stop all ads, or prevent ad measurement; it generally changes how eligible advertising is personalised. You may continue to see contextual or non-personalised ads.

A choice recorded by an AfriWidget notice or consent tool applies only to the choices and technologies that tool actually controls. It should not be treated as a guarantee that every third-party script, cookie or similar technology is blocked in every browser or region. Browser settings and extensions may also restrict cookies or scripts, but some website functions may behave differently. Where applicable law or Google’s policies require consent before particular advertising technologies or data processing are used, the relevant consent controls must be configured and honoured. This policy is a disclosure; it does not by itself create or prove that a compliant consent mechanism is in place.

8. Optional AI Features

Some AfriWidget tools offer optional AI-powered explanations, recommendations or learning assistance. If you choose to activate one of these features, the information included in your request may be sent from your browser to an AfriWidget backend or proxy and then to the configured AI provider, such as Groq, for processing. The information may include tool inputs, a result, selected subjects, a question, an answer or other context needed to generate a response.

Only use an AI feature when you are comfortable sending the requested context for processing. Do not include unnecessary personal or sensitive information. AI providers may process requests under their own terms and privacy practices; processing and retention can depend on the provider, account arrangement and current settings. We cannot promise that every third-party AI system immediately discards every request or response.

If you do not activate an optional AI feature, the standard calculation or tool may work without sending its calculation context to the AI provider. The page may still make ordinary requests for hosting, analytics or advertising as described elsewhere in this policy.

9. Contact Messages and Donations

If you email us or submit a message through a contact form, we receive the details you choose to provide, which may include your email address, name and message. We use that information to respond, handle the request and maintain necessary records. Please do not include sensitive information unless it is necessary for your request.

If you choose to support AfriWidget through PayPal or another external donation or payment service, you will interact with that provider. The provider may collect payment, account, transaction and security information under its own privacy policy. AfriWidget does not need your payment password or full payment credentials. We may receive limited information such as a donation notification, transaction reference, amount or donor details that the provider makes available, depending on the donation flow.

10. Children and Student Users

AfriWidget’s educational tools may be used by school students, including younger users. The tools should be used without entering unnecessary identifying information. Local saving can be convenient, but students should remember that data saved in a shared family, school or public browser may be accessible to other people using that device.

Parents, guardians and educators should supervise younger users as appropriate, especially when using sharing, contact, advertising or AI features. If you believe a child has sent personal information to AfriWidget through a contact channel, please contact us so we can review the request.

11. Retention and Deletion

• Browser-stored data: may remain until you remove it, clear the relevant site data, use a feature’s reset control, or your browser/device removes it. AfriWidget generally cannot remotely erase data stored only in your browser.
• Analytics and advertising data: retained and managed according to the relevant provider’s settings, policies and configuration.
• Hosting and security logs: may be retained by our hosting or security providers for operational, diagnostic and abuse-prevention purposes. Retention periods depend on the provider and configuration.
• AI requests: may be processed by AfriWidget’s backend and the selected AI provider; retention depends on system configuration and the provider’s applicable terms.
• Contact messages: retained for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, manage follow-up and meet legitimate operational or legal needs.
• Donation records: handled by the payment provider and retained as necessary for transaction processing, support, accounting or legal requirements.

Because different systems are involved, we do not promise a single universal retention period for all information.

11.1 Deleting data saved by a particular feature

Start with the feature that saved the information. Look for a clearly labelled “Clear”, “Remove”, “Delete”, “Clear history”, “Reset progress” or similar control. For a list, the control may appear beside each item; for a tracker, it may appear in the tracker’s controls; and for a calculator, it may be near the saved-input or history area. Follow any confirmation prompt carefully. The wording is important because it tells you whether you are deleting one item, a category of records or the feature’s complete local history.

For instance, removing a favourite tool should remove that favourite, while clearing a progress tracker should remove the saved history for that tracker. Clearing “Continue Where You Left Off” should remove the saved continuation information. Clearing a calculator’s stored data should remove the saved values or results covered by that calculator’s control. These are separate actions where the underlying records are separate. You may need to clear more than one feature if you want to remove multiple categories of saved information.

11.2 Clearing all AfriWidget data from your browser

If you want to remove a wider range of AfriWidget information from the current browser, use your browser’s site-data or website-data settings and select afriwidget.com. The exact steps vary between browsers and devices, so look for settings with names such as “Privacy”, “Site settings”, “Cookies and site data”, “Website data” or “Manage data”. Check what the browser says will be deleted before confirming. Clearing a website’s data can remove local storage, cookies and other browser-held information associated with the site, and may reset preferences or other features.

A browser-level deletion is broader than removing one favourite or clearing one progress tracker, but it is not a universal deletion command for every system that may have processed information. It cannot erase a copy you saved outside the browser, a link already shared with someone, a message sent to us, a transaction record held by a payment provider, or records held independently by advertising, analytics, hosting or AI providers. For those categories, the relevant service’s own controls and privacy process may apply.

11.3 What “delete” means and what it cannot promise

For local browser records, deletion means that the relevant feature or browser removes the stored entries it controls. It does not mean that every trace has been securely overwritten from every physical storage component. Browsers, operating systems and devices manage storage internally, and AfriWidget cannot guarantee forensic erasure from a device, backups, system snapshots or copies made by someone else. If you share a device, use a device you do not control or are handling particularly sensitive information, avoid entering unnecessary personal details and sign out of or lock your device when finished.

Deleting local data also does not stop a feature from saving new information the next time you use it. If you want to avoid future local saving, do not use the save or remember function where it is optional, turn off the relevant option if the feature provides one, or use your browser’s privacy settings. Some features may need temporary browser storage to work correctly. Private browsing can limit how long browser data persists, but the browser may still hold data for the duration of the session, and it does not prevent all network requests or third-party processing.

11.4 Deletion requests for information outside your browser

If you believe AfriWidget has received personal information through a contact message or another direct interaction and you want to ask about its deletion, contact us using the details in Section 16. Please describe the relevant interaction and provide enough information for us to locate it, but do not send passwords, payment card details or other unnecessary sensitive information. We may need to verify the request or ask a limited follow-up question before acting. We will assess the request under applicable law and explain if we cannot fully comply.

We cannot directly delete information from an independent third-party account or system that we do not control. For example, a payment provider may retain transaction records for accounting, fraud prevention or legal compliance; an analytics or advertising provider may process data under its own terms; and an email service may retain a copy of a message. Where relevant, you should also use the privacy or account controls offered by that provider. The provider’s retention obligations and deletion process may differ from AfriWidget’s.

11.5 How long locally saved data remains

Local information may remain in the browser until you remove it through the feature, clear the site’s browser data, clear browser data more broadly, use a browser or device function that removes it, or the browser itself removes it under its own storage rules. AfriWidget does not promise a fixed automatic expiry period for every category of local data unless the particular feature clearly states one. If a feature displays a retention period, that explanation applies to the data and function it identifies.

Because local data is kept on your device, we generally cannot retrieve it for you if you accidentally delete it or if the browser removes it. We also cannot promise that a browser backup or device migration will preserve it. Before clearing data, consider whether you need to export or record any progress for your own use, if the feature provides a suitable option. Do not assume that AfriWidget has a server-side backup of a local record.

12. Security and Limitations

We use reasonable measures appropriate to operating a browser-based website, but no website, browser, device or internet transmission can be guaranteed completely secure. HTTPS helps protect data in transit between your browser and the website; it does not encrypt every item stored locally on your device or protect data from someone who can access your unlocked browser profile.

Local storage is intended for convenience, not as a secure password manager or protected health/financial record. Keep your device and browser secure, use device locks, avoid saving sensitive information on shared devices, and clear site data when appropriate. No system can guarantee uninterrupted availability or prevent all loss, unauthorized access or technical failure.

13. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

You can choose whether to use optional AI and sharing features, manage cookies through your browser and available consent controls, remove saved items where a feature provides that option, and clear AfriWidget site data in your browser settings. If you clear site data, some preferences and saved progress may be lost.

Depending on where you live and which law applies, you may have rights to request access to, correction of or deletion of personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, or to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. These rights are subject to legal conditions and exceptions. We cannot identify or retrieve data that exists only in your browser and is not sent to us.

To ask about information AfriWidget may hold through contact messages or other direct interactions, email privacy@afriwidget.com. We will review requests in line with applicable requirements. This policy is intended to explain our practices; it is not a certification or guarantee of compliance with every privacy law in every jurisdiction.

14. Third-Party Services and International Processing

AfriWidget relies on third-party services for functions such as website hosting and security, analytics, advertising, AI processing and donations. Depending on your use of the site, information may be processed by these providers in countries other than your own. Those providers operate under their own terms, privacy notices and technical settings.

Relevant services may include Google Analytics, Google AdSense, Groq or another configured AI provider, the hosting/CDN provider, and PayPal if you choose to donate through it. This list may change as the website changes. Review the relevant provider’s privacy information before using a feature that depends on it.

We may update this policy when features, providers or data practices change. We will revise the “Last Updated” date when we make a material update. Please review this page periodically, particularly after adding new saved-data, sharing, analytics, advertising or AI features.

Local browser storage

A way for a website to keep selected information in your browser on your device so it can be used later. It can persist after a tab closes and may be removed when you clear site data.

Cookie

A small piece of data stored by your browser, often used for preferences, analytics or advertising. Cookies and localStorage are different technologies.

Client-side processing

Work performed by your own browser or device rather than by a remote server. A website can use client-side processing for a calculation and still use servers or third parties for other features.

AI provider

An external service that processes a prompt or context to generate a response. Using an AI feature may send the information needed for that response to the provider.

Analytics

Tools that measure website visits and interactions. Depending on configuration, they may process event information and technical identifiers to create reports.

Final Note

AfriWidget aims to make useful tools accessible while being straightforward about how features work. Some information stays in your browser to make favorites, saved inputs and progress possible; other features, such as AI assistance, analytics, advertising and sharing, can involve additional processing.
