1. Introduction and Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to AfriWidget. This document is a legal agreement between you and AfriWidget. We have written it in clear, everyday language so that you can understand what you are agreeing to without needing a lawyer.
By visiting afriwidget.com, by opening any tool, by clicking any link, or by using any part of the website in any way, you confirm that you have read these Terms of Service, that you understand them, and that you agree to follow them. If any part of this agreement is not acceptable to you, please stop using AfriWidget immediately.
You do not need to sign anything. You do not need to check a box. Your continued use of the website is the same as saying "I agree to these terms." This is how most modern websites work, and it is legally recognised in most countries.
Please also read our Privacy Policy, which is a separate document that explains how we handle information. Together, these two documents form the complete agreement between you and AfriWidget.
2. Who We Are and What AfriWidget Does
AfriWidget is a free online toolkit built and maintained by founder Obed Avorlenu, based in Accra, Ghana. The website offers more than 120 calculators, converters, generators, and utilities across five main areas:
- Education: Tools for calculating grades, exam aggregates, university admission points, GPA, and similar academic measurements.
- Finance: Tools for calculating loan payments, compound interest, savings projections, mortgage costs, profit margins, and similar financial measurements.
- Health: Tools for calculating body mass index (BMI), basal metabolic rate (BMR), daily calorie needs, water intake, and similar wellness measurements.
- Productivity: Tools for generating invoices, QR codes, JSON validation, text cleanup, SEO metadata, passwords, and similar everyday office tasks.
- Business: Tools for pricing, invoicing, freelancing, and small business planning.
All tools on AfriWidget are free to use. There is no subscription, no premium tier, and no hidden charges. The tools run inside your browser, meaning that your inputs never leave your device. (The only exception is the optional AI feature, which is explained in section 10.)
AfriWidget is not a company. It is not a professional advisory service. It is a personal project created by an independent developer to help people solve everyday numerical problems quickly and privately. Please keep this in mind as you use the tools.
3. Who Can Use AfriWidget
AfriWidget is available to anyone with an internet connection and a web browser. There is no age requirement to use the calculators, no geographic restriction, and no invitation needed. Whether you are a student in Ghana, a teacher in Kenya, a freelancer in Nigeria, a parent in South Africa, or a business owner anywhere in the world, you are welcome to use the tools.
Users Under 18
If you are under 18 years of age, we ask that you use AfriWidget with the awareness of a parent or guardian. Many of our tools are specifically designed for students, and we encourage young people to use them. However, because some tools (particularly the finance tools) deal with decisions that have real-world consequences, we recommend that younger users involve a trusted adult when interpreting results.
Users Under 13
Children under 13 years of age are welcome to use the calculators under the supervision of a parent or guardian. Because AfriWidget does not collect any personal information, we do not need to ask for parental consent in a formal way. However, if you are under 13, please ask your parent or guardian to look at the site with you first.
By Using the Service
By using AfriWidget, you confirm that your use of the site does not violate any law that applies to you. If you live in a country where accessing a free tool website is restricted or illegal, you should not use AfriWidget.
4. Your Account and Personal Information
AfriWidget does not have accounts. You do not need to register, sign in, or provide any personal information to use any of our tools. This is not a limitation — it is a deliberate design choice that protects your privacy.
Because there are no accounts, there is nothing to secure, nothing to reset, and nothing to lose. There are no passwords to remember, no email confirmations to click, and no security questions to answer.
If you ever contact us through the Contact page, we will only use the information you provide to reply to your message. See our Privacy Policy for the full details about how we handle contact messages.
5. What You Are Allowed to Do
AfriWidget is designed to be as open and accessible as possible. Here are the things you are free to do:
- Use every tool as often as you want. There is no daily limit, no monthly cap, and no throttling. Use the tools as many times as you need.
- Use the tools for personal purposes. Whether you are planning your studies, managing your household budget, checking your health metrics, or organising your freelance business, the tools are here for you.
- Use the tools for educational purposes. Teachers, tutors, and parents are welcome to use the tools to explain concepts, demonstrate calculations, or help students understand their results.
- Share links to our tools. You are free to share links to any AfriWidget page on social media, in emails, in messaging apps, or anywhere else you want. Word of mouth is one of the main ways people find us, and we appreciate it.
- Reference our content with attribution. If you want to mention AfriWidget in a school project, blog post, or article, you are welcome to do so as long as you credit the source clearly.
- Give us feedback. If you spot a bug, find an error, or have an idea for a new tool, tell us. We read every message and consider every suggestion.
6. What You Are Not Allowed to Do
To keep AfriWidget safe and useful for everyone, there are some things you must not do. Please read this section carefully.
Do Not Copy or Republish Our Tools
Our code, text, designs, icons, and layout are the intellectual property of AfriWidget. You may not copy any part of AfriWidget and republish it as your own, whether on another website, in an app, or in printed material. You may not sell access to our tools or bundle them into a paid product. You may not modify our tools and claim the modified version as your own.
Do Not Break the Website
You may not attempt to disrupt, damage, or overload the website. This includes sending automated requests, trying to gain unauthorised access to our servers, injecting malicious code, or attempting to hack, scrape, or crawl the site in a way that puts strain on our infrastructure.
Do Not Use the Tools for Illegal Purposes
You may not use AfriWidget for any activity that is illegal in your country or in Ghana, where the site is operated from. This includes using our tools to commit fraud, launder money, plan harmful activities, or violate the rights of others.
Do Not Misrepresent Our Tools
You may not claim that AfriWidget provides professional medical, financial, legal, or academic advice. Our tools provide mathematical estimates. They are not a substitute for a professional consultation with a doctor, financial advisor, lawyer, or academic counsellor. If you present our results as professional advice to others, you are misusing the platform.
Do Not Remove or Alter Copyright Notices
If you quote from AfriWidget or reference our content, you may not remove or alter any copyright notices, logos, or attribution statements that appear on the site.
What happens if you break these rules? In most cases, nothing will happen because most users follow the rules naturally. However, we reserve the right to block access, report abuse to hosting providers, or take legal action in serious cases. We would much rather solve problems with a friendly conversation — if you are unsure about something, just ask.
7. Medical Disclaimer (Important)
This is one of the most important sections of this agreement. Please read it in full.
AfriWidget provides health and wellness calculators — such as BMI, BMR, TDEE, water intake, and ovulation tracking tools. These tools are for general awareness and education only. They are not medical devices. They are not diagnostic tools. They are not a substitute for a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, dietitian, or any other licensed healthcare professional.
What Our Health Tools Can Do
- Estimate body mass index based on the standard formula used by the World Health Organization.
- Estimate basal metabolic rate using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, which is widely used in clinical research.
- Provide general wellness information such as a suggested daily water intake range.
What Our Health Tools Cannot Do
- They cannot diagnose any medical condition.
- They cannot tell you whether you are healthy or unhealthy.
- They cannot prescribe treatment, medication, or lifestyle changes.
- They cannot replace a physical examination or a clinical assessment.
- They cannot account for your medical history, medication interactions, allergies, genetic factors, or any other individual health circumstance.
What You Must Do
If you have any health concern, please see a qualified healthcare professional. Do not delay seeing a doctor because of anything you have read or calculated on AfriWidget. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call your local emergency services immediately. If you are pregnant, nursing, elderly, or managing a chronic condition, please consult a clinician before acting on any information from our tools.
Bottom line: AfriWidget is a calculator, not a doctor. If anything about your health worries you, seek professional medical advice. Do not use our tools to make medical decisions on your own.
8. Financial Disclaimer (Important)
AfriWidget provides financial calculators — such as loan repayment, mortgage, compound interest, savings projections, profit margins, and currency conversion. These tools are for educational and illustrative purposes only. They are not financial advice. They are not investment recommendations. They are not tax advice. They are not a substitute for a licensed financial advisor, accountant, or tax professional.
What Our Financial Tools Can Do
- Show you how a loan's monthly payment would change if the interest rate changed.
- Project how much savings might grow with compound interest over a certain number of years.
- Compare profit margins between different pricing scenarios.
- Convert currencies using current or reference exchange rates.
What Our Financial Tools Cannot Do
- They cannot tell you whether a specific loan, investment, or business decision is right for you.
- They cannot account for your full financial picture — debts, obligations, goals, taxes, and future needs.
- They cannot predict market movements, interest rate changes, inflation, or economic conditions.
- They cannot replace the professional judgement of a certified financial advisor.
The Assumptions Problem
Every financial projection is based on assumptions. When you enter "5% annual return" into a compound interest calculator, you are assuming that markets will provide exactly 5% every single year. Real markets do not work that way. Some years are up. Some years are down. Some years are flat. Our calculator cannot model the messy reality of real investing. It can only model the clean, idealised math of the formula.
Use our financial tools to understand the mechanics of financial math. Use a professional advisor to make decisions about your actual money.
Bottom line: AfriWidget is a calculator, not a financial advisor. Always consult a licensed professional before making investment, borrowing, or business decisions.
9. Academic and Education Disclaimer
AfriWidget provides academic calculators — such as GPA, exam aggregate points, university admission scores, and grade conversion tools. These tools are designed as planning aids for students, parents, and educators. They are not official academic records, and they cannot replace the records held by your school, exam board, or university.
What Our Academic Tools Can Do
- Estimate your GPA based on the standard 4.0 scale.
- Calculate your exam aggregate using the official weighting rules we have researched.
- Estimate your university admission points against published cutoffs.
- Convert grades between different international systems.
What Our Academic Tools Cannot Do
- They cannot officially certify your grades or exam results.
- They cannot guarantee admission to any school, university, or program.
- They cannot account for the internal policies of a specific institution, which may differ from the national standard.
- They cannot replace the official transcript issued by your school or exam board.
Why Results May Differ from Official Records
Exam systems change. Government education bodies sometimes update their grading scales, weighting systems, and cutoff thresholds. Universities sometimes apply their own internal adjustments on top of the national standard. Our tools are updated regularly to reflect the latest official rules we can find, but there may be a delay between a rule change and our update.
If you are making a high-stakes decision — such as applying to a competitive university, applying for a scholarship, or appealing a rejection — always verify the numbers against the official record. Our tools should be one source of information, not the only source.
10. AI-Powered Insights Disclaimer
Some AfriWidget tools offer optional AI-powered insights. These are short, plain-language explanations of your calculation result, generated by a large language model running on external servers. The AI insights are provided as a convenience and are not guaranteed to be accurate.
How AI Insights Work
When you click an AI insight button, the tool sends a short, anonymous summary of your calculation through a secure proxy to the AI provider. The AI generates a response, and the response is sent back to your browser. The summary and response are not stored anywhere.
Why You Should Be Careful
AI models are not always correct. They can misunderstand context. They can produce confident-sounding answers that are wrong. They can occasionally invent facts. While we have tuned the prompts to encourage accurate and helpful responses, we cannot guarantee that every AI insight is correct.
Treat AI insights as a starting point for your own thinking, not as a final answer. Verify important information with a professional source. Do not act on AI-generated advice about your health, finances, or legal situation without first confirming it with a qualified expert.
A note on privacy: The AI feature does not send your name, email, phone number, or any other personal identifier. It sends only the anonymous numerical context of your calculation. If you do not want the AI feature to be used, simply do not click the AI button — the standard calculator result appears automatically without any data leaving your browser.
11. Accuracy of Results and Estimates
We work hard to make AfriWidget accurate. Every formula we use has been researched, tested, and cross-checked against official sources. Where possible, we cite the source of our formulas so that you can verify them yourself. That said, we cannot guarantee perfection.
Sources of Potential Error
- Rounding differences: Different systems sometimes round numbers differently, leading to slight variations in results.
- Formula variants: Some fields have multiple accepted formulas (for example, there are several different equations for ideal body weight). We choose the most widely used one, but another valid formula may give a slightly different answer.
- Rule changes: Exam boards, tax authorities, and health organisations occasionally change their official rules. We update our tools when we learn about changes, but there may be a delay.
- Regional variations: A rule that applies in one country may not apply in another. Our tools try to reflect regional differences, but we may not always succeed.
- Input errors: The most common source of wrong results is a mistyped number. Always double-check your inputs.
For any decision with serious consequences, verify the result independently. Our tool is a helpful assistant, not an infallible authority.
12. Intellectual Property and Ownership
All content on AfriWidget is the intellectual property of AfriWidget or its licensors. This includes:
- Text and written content: Every page, guide, explanation, and article on the site.
- Code: The HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and any other programming that runs the site.
- Design: The visual layout, colour palette, typography, icons, and overall look and feel.
- Brand and trademarks: The AfriWidget name, logo, and any associated branding.
- Formulas and calculations: The specific way our tools process and present numbers, to the extent that this can be protected.
What You May Do
- Use the tools for personal, non-commercial purposes.
- Print a page for your own reference.
- Share links to AfriWidget pages.
- Reference AfriWidget with clear attribution in a school project, blog post, or article.
What You May Not Do
- Copy and republish any part of AfriWidget as your own content.
- Use AfriWidget code in your own products or services.
- Sell access to AfriWidget tools or bundle them into a paid offering.
- Remove or alter copyright notices, logos, or attribution statements.
- Use the AfriWidget name or logo without written permission.
If you want to use AfriWidget content in a way that is not listed above, please contact us first. We are usually happy to give permission for legitimate educational or non-commercial use.
13. Third-Party Links and Advertisements
AfriWidget may include links to other websites, resources, or services. These links are provided for your convenience. We do not control those websites, and we are not responsible for their content, privacy policies, or practices.
When you click a link that takes you away from AfriWidget, you are no longer covered by these Terms of Service or our Privacy Policy. You are subject to the terms of the website you are visiting. Please review those terms if you have concerns.
Advertisements
AfriWidget displays advertisements through Google AdSense to support the ongoing cost of running the platform. We do not personally select the ads you see. Google's automated systems select them. The presence of an advertisement does not mean we endorse the advertiser or the product. Please exercise normal caution when responding to any advertisement, on AfriWidget or anywhere else.
Sponsored Content
AfriWidget does not currently host sponsored content. If we ever do in the future, it will always be clearly labelled as such.
14. Availability of Service
AfriWidget is provided on an "as-is" and "as-available" basis. This means we do not promise that the site will always be online, always fast, or always error-free. We try our best to keep everything running smoothly, but there are limits to what a small independent project can guarantee.
Planned Downtime
We occasionally update AfriWidget to add new tools, fix bugs, or improve performance. During these updates, the site may be briefly unavailable. When possible, we try to do this during low-traffic hours to minimise disruption.
Unplanned Downtime
Sometimes things go wrong. Our hosting provider might have an outage. A network issue might affect a specific region. An unexpected technical problem might take down a tool. When this happens, we work as quickly as we can to restore service, but we cannot promise a specific recovery time.
Changes to Tools
We may add, modify, or remove tools at any time. If we decide to retire a tool, we try to give advance notice on the homepage, but this is not always possible.
15. Limitation of Liability
This section is important. Please read it carefully.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, AfriWidget, its founder, and any contributors to the site are not liable for any damages arising from your use of AfriWidget or your inability to use AfriWidget. This includes, without limitation:
- Direct damages (for example, loss of money, time, or opportunity).
- Indirect damages (for example, downstream consequences of a decision you made based on our tools).
- Incidental damages (for example, costs of alternative services).
- Consequential damages (for example, loss of business, income, or reputation).
- Punitive damages (damages designed to punish wrongdoing, which we do not engage in).
This limitation applies even if we were aware of the possibility of such damages. It applies to claims based on warranty, contract, negligence, strict liability, or any other legal theory.
Why This Limitation Exists
AfriWidget is a free service provided by a small independent developer. We cannot afford the insurance premiums that large companies carry to cover every possible adverse outcome. This limitation protects the project so that it can continue to exist. Without it, we could not responsibly operate a free website.
What This Means for You
Use AfriWidget with the understanding that you are responsible for verifying results and making your own decisions. Do not rely on any free tool — ours or anyone else's — for decisions that carry significant personal, financial, or health consequences without consulting a professional.
16. Indemnification
By using AfriWidget, you agree to hold harmless and defend AfriWidget, its founder, and any contributors from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) that arise from:
- Your use of AfriWidget in a way that violates these Terms of Service.
- Your violation of any law or the rights of any third party.
- Your misuse of any tool, calculator, or result.
- Any content you submit through the Contact page or other communication channels.
In plain language: if you do something wrong with AfriWidget and someone sues us because of it, you agree to cover our costs. This is standard legal language found in most website agreements, and it protects the platform from liability caused by user behaviour rather than our own.
17. Termination of Access
AfriWidget is free and open. We do not have user accounts to close, subscriptions to cancel, or access to revoke in a formal sense. However, we reserve the right to block specific visitors, IP addresses, or automated systems from accessing the site if they:
- Violate these Terms of Service in a serious or repeated way.
- Attempt to attack, scrape, or overload our servers.
- Use the site for illegal activity.
- Cause harm or disruption to other users.
This type of blocking is rare and applied only when necessary to protect the platform and other users. In almost every case, we would rather reach out and resolve the issue than block access.
18. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last Updated" date at the top of the page. If the changes are significant — for example, if we introduce a new feature that requires updated rules — we will announce the change clearly on the homepage.
Your continued use of AfriWidget after any change is considered acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with any change, please stop using the site. This is the standard approach for updating online terms, and it means you do not need to be notified individually every time a small wording change is made.
What Will Not Change
Some things about AfriWidget will not change. Our core commitments — free access, in-browser privacy, no accounts, no data selling — are fundamental to the project and are not subject to alteration. These principles guide everything we do, and they will remain in place as long as AfriWidget exists.
19. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of Ghana, where AfriWidget is operated from. This choice of law is standard for websites based in a specific country, and it provides a clear legal framework for the agreement.
How We Prefer to Resolve Disputes
If you have any complaint, concern, or disagreement with AfriWidget, we strongly prefer to resolve it through a friendly conversation rather than formal legal proceedings. Please contact us first through the Contact page. In our experience, almost every issue can be resolved quickly and politely once we understand what happened.
If a Formal Dispute Arises
If a dispute cannot be resolved through conversation, both parties agree to attempt resolution through good-faith mediation before pursuing any formal legal action. This is a standard step designed to save everyone time and money.
Where Claims Would Be Filed
If any formal legal claim is made, it would be filed in the appropriate courts of Ghana. By using AfriWidget, you agree to this jurisdiction.
20. How to Contact Us
If you have any question about these Terms of Service, or about anything related to AfriWidget, please reach out. We read every message and we respond to as many as we can.

21. Plain-Language Glossary
If any term in this agreement was unfamiliar, here is a short glossary in everyday language.
Terms of Service
A document that explains the rules for using a website or service. Sometimes called "Terms of Use" or "Terms and Conditions."
Intellectual Property
Ideas, designs, code, and content that belong to a person or organisation. This includes things like logos, writing, artwork, and software code.
Disclaimer
A statement that limits what a service promises. For example, our medical disclaimer clarifies that AfriWidget is not a doctor and cannot provide medical advice.
Liability
Legal responsibility for something. A "limitation of liability" clause means that in certain situations, the service is not legally responsible for the outcome.
Indemnification
An agreement to cover someone else's costs if they are sued because of your actions. In this document, it means that if you break the rules and someone sues us, you agree to cover our costs.
Jurisdiction
The legal territory where a dispute would be heard. Our jurisdiction is Ghana, where AfriWidget is operated from.
As-Is
A phrase meaning that a service is provided without guarantees. The service is offered "as it currently exists," and the provider does not promise anything beyond that.
As-Available
A phrase meaning that a service is provided when it is online. The provider does not promise continuous availability.
Mediation
A process in which two parties try to resolve a dispute with the help of a neutral third person, before going to court.
Attribution
Giving credit to the original source. If you use content from AfriWidget, you should clearly state that you got it from AfriWidget.
Final Note
Thank you for reading these Terms of Service. We know that most people do not read legal documents, and we tried to make ours as readable and honest as possible. If any part of it was unclear, or if you have a question that we did not answer, please reach out and ask.
AfriWidget is a small project with a big purpose: giving everyday people access to accurate, private, free tools. These Terms of Service exist to protect that purpose. They let us keep the site running, keep the tools free, and keep the platform safe for everyone.
Thank you for being part of it.
— Obed Avorlenu, Founder of AfriWidget
